Wishing you a very happy new year too. Not here yet though but we got to watch the ‘childrens’ fireworks from Sydney harbour via Facetime with my son earlier today! Amazing. x
Best wishes for the new year to you too, Jessica. You did an excellent job capturing the fireworks. We should have some popping up above the Los Angeles harbor in a little more than 12 hours but I never do as well in catching them on camera.
The days are ticking by very fast now, as is always the case near the end of a holiday. No doubt the temperature will be sinking fast in the UK, just in time for that 04.30 arrival at Heathrow..

Happy New Year to you too, Jessica. May 2019 bring you joy. We had to content ourselves with the Sydney fireworks on TV, but even so, they were spectacular!
I was going to say, hard to ‘content yourselves with the Sydney fireworks’, even on TV. Hobart has to content itself with launching from just one barge. Not six plus a bridge!
We arrived in Hobart just after the leading boats. Our hotel room overlooked the harbour which was great. We got to see quite a few of them come in and of course the atmosphere was lively!
I even started tracking their progress via the internet. Some of those boats are huge. And some so small you wonder how they ever made it across the Roaring Forties. No wonder there is such a big celebration.
One year we celebrated NYE twice – once on ski resort time, and an hour later on UK time, but you definitely win the prize for best new year message from a UK gardening blog!
Hope 2019 is a wonderful year for you, with minimal slugs, squirrel, deer and any other critters who see your cherished plants as interesting snacks 🙂
And the same to you Jayne, wishful thinking though it may be.
I wonder if it would be feasible to do a round the world flight having a new glass of champagne to toast in the New Year on the hour. At the very least the stress of the landing would get lost in the blur.
Happy new year to you both 💥💥💥💥
Thanks Ann. It did feel weird being in a different year to England!
Thank you Jessica and. Very happy new year to you too
Here’s to a great gardening year!
Happy New Year Jessica and Mike – still more than 7 hours to go before it reaches here.
I hope you had a lovely evening!
That is so cool you are down under!!! I kinda wish I was somewhere far far away….
The trouble with being somewhere far far away is that, sooner or later, usually, you have to come back..
A lovely start to the year.
It didn’t go quite as planned. As ever there is a story behind it. But the view was lovely!

The childrens’ fireworks are almost as good as the real thing. And they give you a chance to get the camera settings right!
Thank you Jessica. Wishing you both a very happy new year.
I hope it is a happy and healthy year for you both.

It isn’t as easy as it looks, there were very many reject photos. It’s not usually something you can practice every day!
Still out eh…you lucky duck. All the very best to you and yours for 2019.xxx

A little more time but it’s very soon coming to an end. Needless to say we are already planning another trip.
Tasmania now. Happy New year Jessica, you are certainly off to a good start.
I’m running behind. Western Australia now..
Happy New Year! Looks wonderful, bring us back some sunshine soon please xxx
I’ll do my best. But we end up in Singapore, where it’s raining. Albeit very warm rain.
All the best to both of you in 2019. Safe travels. And a (slight) hope for pest/weed free gardening. Ha!
I’ve about as much chance of pest free gardening as an Australian style heat wave!
Wishing you and Mike the happiest 2019 .good health, happy times and great gardening !!! Much love. XXXX
Thanks Jackie and the very same to you both! xx
What an exciting start to the new year, wishing you all the best!
Happy gardening Frank. And a mild winter. I’m not looking forward to returning to the cold I have to say.
Wishing you a most happy and healthy New Year Jessica! xxx
Thanks Anna!
Happy New Year to you xx
Did you sea the ships (from annual boxing day race Sydney to Hobart yacht race) sailing into Hobart?
We arrived in Hobart just after the leading boats. Our hotel room overlooked the harbour which was great. We got to see quite a few of them come in and of course the atmosphere was lively!
Happy New Year to you too! I bet you know far more than you ever believed possible about the Sydney to Hobart race…..
I even started tracking their progress via the internet. Some of those boats are huge. And some so small you wonder how they ever made it across the Roaring Forties. No wonder there is such a big celebration.
Happy New Year!
Thanks Donna!

Happy 2019!
You too. And for both of us, a completed and lovely new bathroom!
Happy New Year Jessica – just catching up with you on your travels.
