There follows a short blogging break. No jetting off to exciting places, sadly. Just terribly behind with everything and struggling to catch up..

Back soon, be good x

    Have a good catch up

    • Jessica April 25, 2017 at 6:13 pm - Reply

Been going flat out today. Well not flat exactly. Mostly at a 45 deg angle. Knackered now 🙁

  2. Caro April 24, 2017 at 9:45 am - Reply

It’s that time of year isn’t it? Everything vying for attention and not enough hours in the day. Hope your catch up is effective.

    • Jessica April 25, 2017 at 6:21 pm - Reply

It is. It would be bad enough if it were just the garden, but no. Too many projects on the go and all needing attention at the same time.

    See you soon xxx

      Thanks CJ.

      Such is life!

  6. Marian St.Clair April 24, 2017 at 2:40 pm - Reply

No, no, no…you are not allowed to go off for a satisfying dig in the dirt and charge us to “be good.” I, for one, intend to be perfectly wicked:^)

    • Jessica April 25, 2017 at 6:30 pm - Reply

      Well just be careful then!
I’ve virtually the whole of the precipitous bank to cut back and weed, racing against time and burgeoning foliage. But workmen in the house again yesterday and another project needing to be researched and planned. Not all satisfying dirt digging sadly.

  7. Kris P April 24, 2017 at 5:33 pm - Reply

Gorgeous flower. Best wishes with your catch-up activities!

    • Jessica April 25, 2017 at 6:32 pm - Reply

Thanks Kris. Molly has kept me waiting something like 5-6 years. They take a while to settle in obviously! But worth the wait.

Being good is no fun! Hope you get all caught up soon. I am watching snow falling as I type this – just as well Malcolm got the grass cut, as I don’t think there will be much gardening happening here this week!

    • Jessica April 25, 2017 at 6:34 pm - Reply

We’ve just had a brief hail shower. But we desperately need rain, not something you’ll hear me say frequently.. I hope!

  9. Denise April 24, 2017 at 6:57 pm - Reply

Be good? Where’s the fun in that? Enjoy your catchy uppy break. You leave me feeling a little grey…

    • Jessica April 25, 2017 at 6:37 pm - Reply

      Cutting edge Denise, cutting edge..
I have fabric samples for another job. Bedroom blinds x 3. Coming under pressure now it’s getting light so early in the morning. Thought a nice grey stripe with a splash of yellow.

  10. plantbirdwoman April 24, 2017 at 9:16 pm - Reply

Good luck with catching up. In my world, that never happens.

    • Jessica April 25, 2017 at 6:38 pm - Reply

Probably not in my world either. I can dream.

  11. CherryPie April 24, 2017 at 10:08 pm - Reply

you have left us with a nice photograph whilst you catch up 🙂

    • Jessica April 25, 2017 at 6:39 pm - Reply

It’s a gorgeous bloom. Hope she lasts a few days as I’ve been waiting six years for it.

  12. bittster April 25, 2017 at 1:19 am - Reply

It’s a busy time, I don’t blame you! Enjoy your break, and maybe there’ll be at least a small trip included 😉

    • Jessica April 25, 2017 at 6:40 pm - Reply

To the garden centre and builders’ merchant probably..

  13. Brenda April 25, 2017 at 2:17 am - Reply

You give us that exquisite photograph of Molly in her full Witchiness and then say “see you later” and “be good.” Ha. You are doing your bloggus interruptus in style. Enjoy every bit of it, but come back soon.

    • Jessica April 25, 2017 at 7:12 pm - Reply

Molly is looking very lovely, all two blooms. I shall have to get another one..

  14. Linda P April 25, 2017 at 8:47 am - Reply

I can understand the reason for taking a break and I hope you have a good and fruitful one. Thanks for the photo- gorgeous.

    • Jessica April 25, 2017 at 7:14 pm - Reply

Hi Linda. The jobs are piling up and the blog was getting squeezed out. Decided just to give in and try to clear the backlog. Hope you are well, I’ll catch up in a few days.

  15. Torrington Tina April 25, 2017 at 8:55 am - Reply

Molly the Witch, one of my favourites in my Yorkshire garden. I know what you mean about catching up, our house has been full of joyful company over Easter but there now follows the catch up. As for those nettles down the drive, they might get a bashing today. Hope you are all ‘catched up’ soon.

    • Jessica April 25, 2017 at 7:18 pm - Reply

Trust the nettles got a thorough bashing. I was hoping for rain and went out early to get some time in ahead of it. But no. The ground here is baked hard. Can’t believe I am thinking pick axe in April. And the watering system has packed up!!

  16. Sue April 25, 2017 at 4:22 pm - Reply

Hope you manage to catch up ….. is that even possible in a garden …. I doubt it 😉

    • Jessica April 25, 2017 at 7:19 pm - Reply

I don’t think it’s possible either. But even some light at the end of the tunnel would be nice.. thanks Sue.

  17. Anna April 25, 2017 at 5:08 pm - Reply

Molly is a beauty. Hope that it’s not all hard work and that you still have some time to stand and stare.

    • Jessica April 25, 2017 at 7:21 pm - Reply

She is worth the six years I’ve been waiting for a bloom. Now I need the Davidia to follow suit. That’s been ten years so far and it has disappointed me yet again.

  18. smallsunnygarden April 25, 2017 at 6:00 pm - Reply

Well, you have certainly outdone yourself taking us all along with you to Australia 🙂 Will def miss your posts though! Hope to see you again soon! Molly and friend are lovely…

    • Jessica April 25, 2017 at 7:23 pm - Reply

At this rate I’ll soon need your advice re desert planting. It’s so dry here.. in April!!

  19. Freda April 25, 2017 at 9:00 pm - Reply

Enjoy one less thing to do for a bit, but hope you wonT be away too long!

    • Jessica April 27, 2017 at 7:59 pm - Reply

It’s good to have a break occasionally. Looking at something with fresh eyes is always a positive thing to do.

  20. Virginia April 26, 2017 at 6:57 am - Reply

Ha! You have warm weather coming – we have the dreaded winter – so being good equates to keeping warm in my opinion. Hope you get the cores under control soon. I don’t envy you the blinds. Making Roman blinds is my most hated curtaining task.

    • Jessica April 27, 2017 at 8:03 pm - Reply

At least these blinds are relatively small. I once put my back out leaning over a very large piece of fabric on the floor, was in agony for days, and have treated them with respect ever since!

  21. Rosie April 26, 2017 at 1:29 pm - Reply

Molly the Witch is quite bewitching in her beauty. I hope you mamage to catch up with all those things that must be done:)

    • Jessica April 27, 2017 at 8:07 pm - Reply

It’s not been a bad week, got quite a bit done. Have a good bank holiday weekend Rosie.

  22. karen April 26, 2017 at 8:50 pm - Reply

Same here. I’m submerged under an enormous pile of paperwork. Good luck with your projects. See you soon. Love Karen x

    • Jessica April 27, 2017 at 8:08 pm - Reply

That doesn’t sound very good. But better to get it out of the way this week, the weather is supposed to be picking up!

  23. Charles April 26, 2017 at 10:10 pm - Reply

Relax all you bloggers pretend to have 48 hours in a day. Me I reckon 6 hours when I do things is good. Far too much emphasis is placed on milestones and progress, treading water looking about and having a crafty drink or two also have their place. Calm down, have a drink, mop the kitchen floor, have the other half and put on the kettle for breakfast.

    • Jessica April 27, 2017 at 8:20 pm - Reply

Rest assured there is plenty of treading water and a crafty drink to go with it. If you could arrange for a bit more water though that would be grand.. it took almost three hours this afternoon to hack a plant sized hole through solid clay and bits of slate, all the while slithering down the steepest part of the bank. And last night’s frost took all of the new leaves on the Davidia. A gardener’s lot is not always a happy one.

Dear Rusty Duck, when you take a break from blogging do not read the comments. We vampires will suck just as much energy from you with every little comment . Put up another post with a clove of garlic on it and promise to return in July. No one will die, you might get back early, just don’t look over your should and turn into a pillar of salt. God I enjoy telling people what to do! Have fun, do not do too much and relax. We had a relax tonight and that is good.

    • Jessica April 27, 2017 at 8:27 pm - Reply

You have a good approach to retirement Charles. I need to relearn relax. Getting better though.
p.s. the only garlic in the house is chopped up finely in a jar from Waitrose. Will that do?

  25. hb April 29, 2017 at 1:03 am - Reply

Relax, re-energize, renew, look at some koala photos…

    • Jessica April 29, 2017 at 10:58 pm - Reply

Ah yes, koalas. That should do it!

Ok if this is another trip to Australia you are history woman.

    • Jessica May 2, 2017 at 7:20 pm - Reply

Isn’t that the wonderful thing about the internet? A person can be anywhere. But no, not history yet.

  27. Charles May 1, 2017 at 8:09 pm - Reply

Chopped garlic will do, mine is growing. I have too many onions growing, the over wintering kind, and I have plants to go where they are growing.

    • Jessica May 2, 2017 at 7:24 pm - Reply

I tried growing garlic a couple of years ago. It didn’t do very well but it was intended mainly as a device to mask the scent of my potato tubers from mice and slugs. That did seem to work. No vampires either that I noticed..

Hello Jessica, I am slowly trying to catch up with blogs I haven’t visited for ages – too much to do both indoors and in the garden. Have a good break, see you when we both are back in full swing :-)

    • Jessica May 2, 2017 at 7:31 pm - Reply

It’s that time of year. It rained over the weekend, badly needed as it happens, but I think the weeds have grown six inches apiece since then.

Have you gone to New Zealand this time?

    • Jessica May 6, 2017 at 8:13 am - Reply

      Devon riviera.
Whilst out this morning I did contemplate purchasing a copy of The Times with today’s date. But I bought a Spotty Dotty instead. I could photograph that.. it would be dormant in the southern hemisphere now.
