It’s going to be a bit of a moving feast today.

The website is back up, as you see, using a temporary theme. I’m really sorry if you’ve tried to visit over the last three days and found it broken. Hopefully that won’t happen again but if it does please bear with me.. I’m doing my best to get rusty duck back to normal as fast as I can.

Oh Jessica – I totally feel your pain!!! I am so sorry for you having troubles, it is horrid isn’t it. I really do hope that all will be OK and back to normal again when you can make it better. You poor thing, sending hugs to you. xx

Sending techno-webbly vibes your way. Flora Bijou Mybug has offered her services as topnotch technical website sorter-outer but I feel she is sadly disillusioned regarding all her abilities vis a vis computers and stuff. She says she has a magic tail. Hmmm….

    • Jessica February 11, 2015 at 9:05 pm - Reply

If she could waft her magic tail this way it would be greatly appreciated. As long as it is clean and free of odour.

Hoping normal service will resume! I’d be at a complete loss as I wouldn’t know where to begin.

    • Jessica February 11, 2015 at 9:06 pm - Reply

I am at a complete loss. There is nothing so dangerous as someone meddling when she has not a clue as to what she is doing.

Maybe it should be ‘squeak, squeak’? And even when you take a picture of a mouse, Jessica, it’s beautiful. Hope you find that button.

  11. frayed at the edge February 11, 2015 at 7:02 pm - Reply

I assumed the fault was at my end, as I have been having trouble recently commenting on some blogs – your comment form no longer keeps my details, so I have to enter them every time. Hope you get it all sorted out – it is such a pain when it goes wrong!

    • Jessica February 11, 2015 at 9:13 pm - Reply

Is the comment box problem just tonight or before that as well? Let me know and I’ll see if I can sort it. It annoys me having to keep re-entering my details on blogs too.

      • frayed at the edge February 12, 2015 at 8:31 am - Reply

I’ve had the problem for a couple of weeks, but don’t worry about it, I’m sure it ill sort itself out. On some blogs at the moment, I can only comment using my google ID, which is annoying as it means there isn’t a link back to me, and on some WordPress blogs my comment simply disappear – I am feeling very unloved!!

        • Jessica February 13, 2015 at 10:32 am - Reply

I will look into it Anne, as soon as I’ve got the website problems sorted out. Remind me if necessary!

I know the blog being off line feeling it happens frequently but mine usually comes back as it was before it disappeared… I feel for you xx

    • Jessica February 13, 2015 at 10:25 am - Reply

These things are sent to try us Cherie. Whilst the old theme isn’t working I was trying to configure a new one to look the same, and so far failing miserably! I think I need to take time out and properly scrutinise the instructions, such as they are.

  17. Kris P February 12, 2015 at 4:39 am - Reply

Oh no! Computer problems are the worst! I hope you work your way through to the other side of the rabbit – I mean, mouse – hold soon.

    • Jessica February 13, 2015 at 10:27 am - Reply

Perhaps I should have paid more attention to the techy side of things in my project management days.

  18. Linda P. February 12, 2015 at 8:20 am - Reply

Glad everything is well, personally. Sorry about the technical problems and hope they will be resolved soon.

    • Jessica February 13, 2015 at 10:28 am - Reply

Thanks Linda. You feel quite powerless when the site is down and it’s impossible to communicate with people and let them know why. I put updates on twitter but I know not everybody uses that.

  19. Rosie February 12, 2015 at 9:11 am - Reply

Hope you manage to sort things out soon – technology is a wonderful thing – sometimes!:)

    • Jessica February 13, 2015 at 10:35 am - Reply

I feel quite powerless CJ as I’m really not sure what I am doing. I’ll keep persevering, it’s worked before.

    • Jessica February 13, 2015 at 10:36 am - Reply

Thanks Linda. There may well be more down time. So frustrating.

  23. woolythymes February 12, 2015 at 1:48 pm - Reply

fingers crossed for you…..why don’t these things just WORK? all the time. without our help? (my comments have been plafoozy. I think I sorted it out, although I have no idea how. note: I’m taking credit for the fix even though it was probably fixed by someone in la-la land. I stewed around enough, though, to earn the credit!)

    • Jessica February 13, 2015 at 10:38 am - Reply

It’s all got so complicated that’s the problem. One little error in the code seems to have monumental consequences. Much like DNA I suppose.

Hi Jessica – this looks very scary. Do you know what caused your problems in the first place? I have often thought about changing my theme or maybe playing with the css but I would hate to lose my whole website.

    • Jessica February 13, 2015 at 9:05 pm - Reply

A file within the theme got corrupted somehow I think, with devastating effect, it brought the whole site down. All I know is, it was not me! ‘Playing with the css’, those four words catapult you into a league far exceeding my own.

  27. elaine February 13, 2015 at 7:11 pm - Reply

When I saw all those crazy posts on my dashboard – I thought – hello, Jessica’s finally lost it!

    • Jessica February 13, 2015 at 9:08 pm - Reply

It’s an exceedingly fine line Elaine. Exceedingly.
I downloaded a demo template for a new theme which contained example posts. WordPress, bless it, decided they were new posts and emailed them to all subscribers!

    • Jessica February 15, 2015 at 9:03 pm - Reply

Not quite yet, but getting there, thanks Peter. At least I am back in communication again. Felt really weird not having the blog.

  29. Annie February 18, 2015 at 6:51 pm - Reply

I feel your pain … I’m having problems with my blog too, comments that disappear and feeds that don’t update, meaning that I post but no one knows I have. Hope you can sort it soon.

    • Jessica February 18, 2015 at 9:58 pm - Reply

Feedly seems to be a problem at the moment. My last post took almost 24 hours to reach it. It’s not just us though, I’ve seen posts appearing on Twitter many hours before the readers. But mostly for me it’s finding the time to do the work to sort the blog out. There are just not enough hours in the day πŸ™

oh cripes, if it’s not one thing it’s another, I hope things are better by now Jessica, my internet connection is a bit better now (she says hoping not to tempt fate) so I am catching up on some blog reading, Frances

    • Jessica February 21, 2015 at 9:52 pm - Reply

I just got it working properly again today. What a performance. Now I know what to do if it happens again at least. This is my justification for all the time spent.
And as for broadband.. just don’t get me started. It is the price we pay for living in the sticks Frances.

      • islandthreads February 22, 2015 at 3:14 pm - Reply

not just the sticks, my son is in a village between East Grinstead and Lewes Sussex and when he was with BT and a landline his connection was slower than mine, we couldn’t believe that I would have faster broadband than him, he got so fed up that one day he went into a mobile phone shop and bought a cheap mobile with internet access and a (I think it’s called) booster, his internet was so much faster, he later cancelled his landline and no longer deals with BT, I can’t do that as I can’t get a mobile phone signal at my house, for me this current problem in new and I am hoping it is temporary, it’s the fact that I have had to pay in advance that I find most annoying, I’m keeping a log today and have the camera by the computer taking screenshots for proof if necessary, wishing you better luck with yours, Frances

        • Jessica February 22, 2015 at 10:54 pm - Reply

No mobile signal here either, but I’m increasingly thinking of satellite broadband. BT are promising superfast but the big question is when! We have all become so dependent on the internet, and now can’t manage without it. Good luck!

I'd love to hear from you..
