Ha! Sneaky you! That will fix them 🙂
Love seeing our red ones burrowing away trying to find their nuts — they are so cute. They’ve done well out of our walnuts this year.
Brilliant Jessica 🙂 I’ve come to the conclusion that they forget most of what they have stashed away judging by the amount of horse chestnut seedlings I pull out every spring.
That’s a great series of photos, Jessica! And Anna is right – they don’t have a clue where they bury their nuts, although I used to think they buried them in one big store. Experience now tells me otherwise (hazels in our case)…!
I’m not sure what delights me more, that you bring the ducks in for winter, or that it confused the poor squireel so! BTW, I think we need an update on that “spin the squirrel” game you have…
I’m hoping we’re coming into squirrel spinning season again. They’ve pretty well ignored it all summer and obviously at the moment there are rich pickings elsewhere. But when it gets really cold and they have forgotten where they buried the nuts…. I’m thinking of trying a video. Apparently WordPress has a plugin now.
Oh dear, I am now hoping that something comes and devours all the available squirrel food really soon. I so want to see a video of a spinning squirrel. With sound. Pretty please…
Poor little squirrel ….. he must think he’s going mad !!!! I’m sure that he’ll find his booty if he’s anything like our squirrels ….. we watch then digging up the lawn daily !! XXXX
There are still plenty of acorns around if he gets hungry. I was watching one literally hanging off a very thin branch over a 20 foot drop onto concrete (and holding my breath). They are so agile!

Now that sounds like petty revenge to me Jessica. I had expected more of you. Next thing you’ll be telling me you’ve put mouse traps down….. 🙂
Ah, but think of all those lovely birdies, like the long tailed tits, that will have more food to keep their little bodies warm over the cold harsh winter, if the squirrels aren’t around..
Sorry I am late to the party, as usual :{ ‘Fraid I can’t add “how cute” to the comments because you know that when I see a grey the ‘red mist’ comes down and I just want the b*ggers exterminated. I do think your spinner is a wonderful thing though :}
They certainly miss a lot. This year I’ve put a few of the germinated baby oaks in a shallow dish to try and grow a bonsai group. I’ll call it Squirrel Wood, if it survives, in their honour!
lol Jessica I just lovely bringing the ducks in for winter ……..
poor squirrel will it find it’s winter store or will you have a tree in the middle of your lawn next year ……………….. Frances
I don’t know whether to laugh or feel sorry for the little thing. He looks as though he is looking to say ‘pleeease help me find them nice lady’! Am I tugging at your heart strings?!! 🙂 xx
Lovely shot of the confused squirrel. Hope that he;locates his nuts!
Thanks Sue. There are plenty more acorns around if not!
That is gonna be one confused squirrel!!
He He 🙂

Very envious of your reds. They are so cute!
I laughed out loud at your cunning ruse – much to the consternation of the cat snoozing on my lap – that squirrel looks very confused indeed:)
My apologies to the cat!
Thanks Rosie.
Hilarious! Good to see ducks all ready for the cold. By the way – purchased the F&B!!!!!!!!! Strong White and Pavilion Grey! Woop Woop!
My colour chart is to hand… it’s going to look SO classy!!
haha. Hope the squirrels don’t decide that they’ll break into the winter quarters to hide their nuts in the large pot housing the ducks.
Oh gosh… if they do though, they’ll have to share with the mice. Their Home Sweet Home signs are already up in the shed.
Brilliant Jessica 🙂 I’ve come to the conclusion that they forget most of what they have stashed away judging by the amount of horse chestnut seedlings I pull out every spring.
Quite. Here it’s baby oak trees…
Brilliant, l love your first photo of the squirrel slinging to the ducks. I’m glad your ducks are safely tucked up for the winter now.
I didn’t realise the squirrel was actually hanging on to the ducks until I enlarged the photo, I took it from so far away. We need a longer lens..
Great photos Jessica! That poor old squirrel really does look confused!
Thanks Simone. It does. As long as he doesn’t now dig up the whole lawn looking for the nuts… Not that it was pristine, after the cow.
Hahahahaha, I LOVE it! The squirrel and those fab rusty ducks.xxxx
Thanks snowbird. Ducks safely put away for winter, as I’m not sure if they’re frost proof.
That’s a great series of photos, Jessica! And Anna is right – they don’t have a clue where they bury their nuts, although I used to think they buried them in one big store. Experience now tells me otherwise (hazels in our case)…!
If they spread them around a bit sooner or later they’ll dig in the right place. They certainly make enough holes in the lawn!
Ha, so funny!!
Thanks VJ!
Haha ….. you’re soooo cruel 🙂
What’s a girl to do? 🙂
Poor squirrel! But Jessica’s revenge, n’est ce pas??
C’est moi?

I shall do my best. But they’ve got to come back to it first… It might be that Twirl-a-Squirrel has actually worked!
Poor little squirrel ….. he must think he’s going mad !!!! I’m sure that he’ll find his booty if he’s anything like our squirrels ….. we watch then digging up the lawn daily !! XXXX

Lovely story, beautifully told!
Thanks Freda.
Brilliant. Lovely to see the ducks tucked up too!
I don’t know whether ice would start to eat into the rusty layers. Better safe than sorry. Thanks Em.
That’s one for you 🙂 See you in the spring rusty ducks.
I don’t get many! But I’m looking forward to getting them out again.
I love your rusty ducks. Poor squirrel – I hope he finds his nuts!
He will, or failing that he will be after the bird food. They are survivors, the greys.
Brilliant! The post that is, not the squirrel on the lawn problem 😉 Don’t all ducks fly off to roost in a bucket winter? 😉
Or even ‘in winter’
Thanks Annie. Some do, others stay. Their fatty layers keep them warm. Wish it worked for me!
Aaaah…I kinda feel sorry for him!
He’ll be fine. He’s just sitting there planning how he’s going to steal all the bird food over winter..
I’m laughing. Wonderful photos!
Thanks CJ. It’s not very often I am on the winning side with the squirrels!
Just finished clearing out the backyard at the old house, and my poor basset is just as confused as your squirrel!
(s)old house :o)
Aw… hope it’s going well. Good luck, but it’ll be worth it!
LOL,… love your ducks!
Rich Colors of Autumn
They are lovely aren’t they. Thanks Michael.
Oh my goodness. I love it and I’m laughing out loud about it on this end. Thanks for making my day with this one. Blessings, Natalie 🙂 🙂 🙂
You’re welcome. It’s nice to score one up against them occasionally!

I must get the spinner into the shed for Mike to give it a pre-season service..
aww sweet x
Pesky things!
Wonderful! Be careful of his revenge, though.
I know. They are back under the rhododendrons with the white board. Plotting..
Poor thing will go hungry now and you’ll have that on your conscience, or not, lol. I love those ducks.
I wonder if it’s the same one that ate all my blueberries earlier in the year?
lol I don’t think our squirrels ever come back looking for their acorns.
They certainly miss a lot. This year I’ve put a few of the germinated baby oaks in a shallow dish to try and grow a bonsai group. I’ll call it Squirrel Wood, if it survives, in their honour!
You are hilarious!!!
Great post…and…i love the fact that you answer every comment!
I try to do the same…more cosier that way ♥
Cheers!
Linda :o)
Oh gosh, thanks Linda.
Comments and replies, having a conversation, is the most enjoyable thing about blogging!
I absolutely….positively agree!!
🙂
Ah, poor squirrel . . . maybe he’ll find a way into your bulb store and pay you back for your lac of consideration. (I hope that’s not prophetic.)
. . . ahem! . . . lacK
Fear not Janice, the mice have already beaten him to it!!
So funny 🙂
He really does have THAT confused look on his face. I love those rusty ducks !
~Jo
He was running about today, digging up all over. Not sure I’ve done myself a service..
lol Jessica I just lovely bringing the ducks in for winter ……..
poor squirrel will it find it’s winter store or will you have a tree in the middle of your lawn next year ……………….. Frances
Were it not for the mower, several trees I’m sure!
I don’t know whether to laugh or feel sorry for the little thing. He looks as though he is looking to say ‘pleeease help me find them nice lady’! Am I tugging at your heart strings?!! 🙂 xx
Oh that’s sneaky. You know me too well. 😉 xx
Nothing like confusing the heck out of a squirrel! Sweet revenge for the birdfeeder raiding.
It may yet backfire… but I’m looking forward to seeing whether they have remembered the twirler on the bird nuts.
O, love that picture with the ducks all cuddly together in their winterhome! Such friendly looking ducks as well 😉
They always seem to me to be smiling! Thanks Marian.
squirrels are so tenacious…i’m sure he’ll be waiting for the ducks return in the spring.
And stealing the bird food in the meantime. Let battle commence..
