Yesterday and Today
What a difference a day makes.
This was the scene yesterday afternoon. A dramatic storm for this time of year.
Thunder and lightening. Hailstones on the wall.
Blossom torn from the trees. New herb plants that I’d just put out, flattened against the soil. The temperature plummeting overnight, almost to zero again.
And yet this is what greets us today:
Lunch outside on the terrace. Real warmth in the sun.
How long will it be before I dare break out the shorts?
Hi Jessica,
All I can say is ‘Bloody weather !! ‘ ….. I am FREEZING today. I don’t really mind what the weather throws at us ….. I mean, if your British, you’re used to it but, I think that I would now like a little bit of warm sunshine on these old bones !!!! I’m sure that the warmer weather is on it’s way though so, bring on the shorts I say. XXXX
Oh I do hope so Jackie. It won’t be before time..
Break out the shorts but keep some trousers handy!
The wardrobe ‘changeover’ has got later and later these past few years..
Oh my goodness! Were your plants ok? I know there was snow in Cornwall a few days back :-0
Re the shorts I should go for it, just don’t make the mistake of that UKIP hopeful who painted herself orange just before the recent election. Not a good look on the whole, particularly when half the country has seen it on TV! CT x
They are starting to pick up again, thankfully. I missed the orange lady though, shame!
If you wear shorts the ice age will return. Do not do it.
Good point.
Wow, that does look awful. What a shame about the blossom, I do hope the herbs survive. The weather is downright weird, we just have endless rain, wind and low temperatures. Roll on summer….xxxx
The wildlife is suffering too… much less activity when the weather is so bad.
Sadly my shorts days are behind me, but you go for it! Julie x
Only this side of the garden gate, Julie!
Hail…how awful. To wait for spring and blossoms, and then have them torn off the trees 🙁
We need a good summer in the UK, the weather has been awful the last few years.
We really are having wacky weather up to now this year. The only things that seem to be enjoying it are the weeds!!
Too true, I am struggling to keep up with them.
Nooooooo! Don’t do the shorts yet! We are much further south than you are so should do them first! Just kidding! No doubt we shall all be having a wee bit of a moan about how hot it is!
Fear not Vera. The Met Office said that today there was a less than 5% chance of rain. Guess what..
I love venting my rage on the weather…..for me, it’s usually the heat and humidity that drives me to tears, but I’d be pretty darn ragged about that hail on my new plantings! Hope everything survived (I’ve already lost some basil to over zealous early planting!!!) Shorts? Go for it…..pretend it’s summer….it’s a psychological lift!
The parsley picked up but my beans, possibly also planted out too early, are looking a bit sick!! 🙁
My last pair of shorts went to the charity shop about three years ago! I guess it’s like umbrellas if you take one on a trip you won’t need it, similarly if you leave the shorts in the wardrobe the sun will shine! Who am I kidding – get them out if it feels warm enough. Hope the flattened herbs revive:)
The shorts are still packed away!
Huge hail stones ! It’s humid today – perhaps a storm brewing ? Hope so ! but after I get in tonight ( Yesterday was given two tickets to see Eddie Issard ! )
You do get about.. Hope you had a good evening!
I hope your herbs revive. It was actually shorts weather here today, but I don’t think it’s going to last. I’ve just heard a weather forecaster describe the coming week’s weather as “interesting”, which I think is code for rain, wind and cold temperatures.
Oh joy!!
No shorts here just yet. More rain today and still reeling under the displaced jet stream. It is warmer up in Edinburgh where my sister in law lives than here in the Loire!! …sigh… 🙁
Our day of sun was just that. One day. Forecast to get colder again for us all. Enough already.
Shorts…what are they? I thought they’d been consigned to the clothing archives here in the UK due to our rubbish ‘summers’ 😉 Heavy rain is a real pain when you’ve just planted, I hope the herbs revived after.
Only seen on postmen these days!
Oh my goodness – what awful weather – mother nature seems to have lost the plot.
And our plots along with it at this rate.
The weather doesn’t seem to be able to make up its mind at the moment!
It’s crazy. But could be worse – just been watching a tornado in Oklahoma on the news.
It’s definitely not short weather here, it’s hard to know which way the weather’s going to go this year from one day to the next. Hope your herbs have recovered from the storm.
I remember sitting outside during warm evenings in May, but it seems an awfully long time ago!
