Coming Of Age

Jessica Wm

This is me. It is probably the one and only time I’ve ever been cute. But the writing was already on the wall. A notable truculence wouldn’t you say? And even more telling, the little bit of torn fabric hanging down from the back of my bridesmaid’s dress. I’d already been involved in some sort of scrape. And at that point we’d not even made it into the church..

.

My blog is betwixt two milestones. It’s just over six months old and, unbelievably, sometime over the next week I should be doing my 100th post. It began as a bit of an experiment and I gave it three months. And then until the end of the year. The year end has passed by and I’ve got ‘the bug’.

Whilst I do love writing, the great part of the adventure has been in the discovery of so many other lovely blogs too.

But interaction is the best bit of all. So I wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to all who take the time to read and to comment on rusty duck. It just wouldn’t be the same without you.

I would have been so jealous, I always wanted one of those hand muff things! Julie x

A bit restrictive if you need to carry anything though!

Good lord, only 6 months? somehow you don’t feel like a new blog.

Love your picture. It reminds me of when I was a bridesmaid when I was about 8 -I also had a white fur muff plus a white fur headband. The dress was long and made of turquoise velvet -looked much nicer than it sounds.

    • Jessica January 5, 2013 at 5:56 pm - Reply

Thanks Sue. I think it sounds delightful. This dress was deep red velvet for memory.

Thank you for sharing your corner of the world and your thoughts with us 🙂

I have never been a bridesmaid.

    • Jessica January 5, 2013 at 6:10 pm - Reply

I did it twice, although after this picture I’m surprised I got asked again!

You write a wonderful blog Jessica. You are a true story teller! I loved a ‘sticking out’ dress when I was small and would have loved yours as well as the fur muff and white shoes!!! I never stayed clean for very long though.

    • Jessica January 5, 2013 at 6:18 pm - Reply

Aw thanks, Simone. I think staying clean was a problem for me too.. clothes were clothes and anything did for the sandpit.

The photo is wonderful a sort of “I wouldn’t get out of bed for less than a new doll and a large tube of smarties” stance. I didn’t realise that your blog was such a youngster, it seems so well established, you obviously have the knack. Here is to your next 100 posts.

    • Jessica January 5, 2013 at 6:35 pm - Reply

I was obviously miffed about something but it would have had to have been a new spade, or something else for the sandpit, over a new doll..

I was a bridsmaid when I was about 7 or 8, I vaguely remember my Mum trying to drag me complaining loudly from the snooker room at the pub where the reception was going on, I preferred the smokey room with all the men playing snooker and pool than the girly dancing!!

    • Jessica January 5, 2013 at 6:52 pm - Reply

Oh, I can just imagine it! And I’d be the same.

  7. Sue January 5, 2013 at 3:55 pm - Reply

ooops……I forgot to say WELL DONE on your fast growing Blog, it’s true it does seem like a much more established Blog that it actually is, you have a natural writing and story telling ability. I for one will keep coming back.

    • Jessica January 5, 2013 at 6:53 pm - Reply

      Thanks Sue x

I am sure you still have cute moments, and I also feel the same about blogging. I started off in January 2009 only with the intention of letting my family know how we were doing, then after about three months the networking started, and now blogland is an important part of my life even though I do not always have time to make comments or sometimes write blogs. I also have met some lovely people, and look forward to continuing to do so during the coming year.

I hope 2013 is a super duper year for you, with lots of lovely veg grown, minimal visits from mice, the bookshelves finished, lots of fun in the new kitchen, and, above all, a sense of moving forward. x

    • Jessica January 5, 2013 at 6:59 pm - Reply

Thanks Vera, it’s the sense of moving forward that keeps us going in this game isn’t it?

It is great. So many wonderful ideas out there, and always someone to cheer you up when you most need it!

What a great picture! Congratulations on your 100 posts. I’ve been doing it nine months and am coming up for 70 posts so you’re more prolific than me. Really enjoy reading you so I’m so glad I discovered you. Know what you mean about the bug……how do others in your household feel about it???? I get comments like “Mummy’s in the blogosphere” and sniggers. Hmmm.

    • Jessica January 5, 2013 at 7:11 pm - Reply

“Blogging AGAIN” is the most frequent comment. And “Are you ever coming to bed?”. It is time consuming, perhaps the thing I most need to learn is how to make it less so. But I would have thought the younger generation would approve?

  11. domesticali January 5, 2013 at 5:24 pm - Reply

I’m glad you’re carrying on with the experiment and very happy to have found you here! Especially now I see how stylishly you carry off a muff!

Nowadays I’d probably be texting in there… thanks Ali.

Congratulations and I cannot believe it is only 6 months. I always read your posts with a grin on my face – you write a good story and I can connect with most of them usually because we have been there but sometimes because we are about to go there!! Please keep me laughing through 2013 it helps to put renovating in perspective when you feel like screaming or giving up.
By the way what a cutie – I was a bridesmaid on my 4th birthday and had a similar short very full dress just like yours (but no muff – it was July) and for a whole month before hand I was forced to wear ‘trews’ in case I fell over and grazed my knees before the big day! x

    • Jessica January 6, 2013 at 11:12 am - Reply

The only way to approach renovating is with a sense of humour – on the basis that if anything can go wrong, it probably will! Quite apart from having to live without essentials. Kitchens. Heat. Water. That sort of thing! Thanks Viv.

I think that if that photo had a think bubble it would read, ” someday I will Blog about this you know ! ” So glad you are hooked on Blogging as I’d miss you if you went !
I started the Hen House to talk about getting hens & it went from there – friendships made through writing about my little world ! I love reading about your world and look forward to the next six months x

    • Jessica January 6, 2013 at 5:26 pm - Reply

When you start writing about it, you find out that your world is not so little! Others are doing very similar things and experiences can be shared. That’s what’s been fun. Thanks Penny.

…………. and, a wonderful 2013 to you Jessica.
Looking at that photograph of you as a bridesmaid is like looking at myself. If I had to dress up, you could guarantee that it would be ripped somewhere and that I had been up to mischief !!
Here’s to many more posts from you and another year of blogging friendship. XXXX

Keep it up – it’s amazing how enriching and supportive life becomes as fellow bloggers get to know you and be known themselves.

Lovely bridesmaid photo – a little attitude makes for a more interesting occasion every time!

    • Jessica January 7, 2013 at 5:22 pm - Reply

I think red, yes. But I was only three or thereabouts so the memory is not that clear! I love visiting you too! 🙂

Blogging is completely addictive isn’t it? I even find that if I haven’t blogged for a bit I get that faint tapping on the shoulder sensation that makes me get back to it. I am amazed at how many really great people I have met since I started blogging, quite a few of them in the flesh as well now and real as well as virtual friends. Not sure really why I was so surprised. Seems obvious now!

    • Jessica January 9, 2013 at 10:11 pm - Reply

Blogging gives us the advantage of looking into peoples’ lives and getting to know them before we meet. So yes, it does seem natural that they should become friends. I have that pleasure to come!

Just catching up here. And thank you, for starting your lovely blog. I was the same, just trying blogging for a few months to see how things went, and I’m still at it nearly two years on. Kind of addictive isn’t it, hanging out with our mates in this bloggy world of ours!

    • Jessica January 10, 2013 at 5:16 pm - Reply

      It certainly is, thanks Annie.
