A Great British Summer
OK, I’ve had enough.
My potatoes have blight. My raspberries have grey mould.
The slugs don’t bother seeking out damp and shady places in which to spend the day. They just carry right on, munching their way through my peas and my beans.
The weather was wonderful in March but since then it has hardly stopped raining. It’s now officially been the wettest April-June period on record. And the least sunny. Tomorrow is St Swithins Day. According to tradition the weather on 15 July, his feast day, will continue for the next forty days. It seems barely credible but, according to the Met Office, it is NOT going to rain tomorrow. In England anyway.
But it IS going to rain on the 16th. And the 17th…..
